It’s a fun game: have a friend take a picture of you while you’re running, and see what it looks like. Or, do it yourself – just run by a shop window and check out your good-looking reflection.
Other than clearly being incredibly attractive, and dedicated to your health (you are out for a run after all), what does the image look like?
Most critically, how’s your posture?
Check out this kid’s posture; what do you see?
I see…
- Head up, and chin neutral, with eyes forward
- Arm moving back as much as it moves forward
- Feet are under and behind the hips
- Straight line from ears to hips to the grounded foot
Seriously, this is why we say that kids know how to run. But then western society puts them into positions that takes this away from them.
Now it’s your turn. DO THIS. Go out, get warmed up, and take a picture of yourself running. Do you look as well-aligned as this boy? Where are you aligned, and where is your alignment off? Email me, and tell me what you see. Or, send me your picture if you’d like my thoughts.
Be well, and run well,
Michael (Michael@WasatchFitnessAcademy.com)
