Why we train the way we do

When you’re looking to change your body – whether it’s building endurance, getting strong, or losing fat, two rules are primary:

  1. Don’t get hurt
  2. Don’t get bored

Consistency is everything. Frequency beats amplitude. If you lose training time because you got hurt, you’re not making progress. And if your training isn’t fun and joyful, it’s harder to stick to it.

That’s why, when we train, we take safety and form seriously. Movement quality is primary, and once we’re moving well, we add intensity to speed up our results. And we select tools and exercises that will get us the results we want, with the lowest likelihood of injury. We also select our tools and exercises to be efficient – you shouldn’t be spending all day in the gym; fitness is to be used in the real world.

But we also take fun seriously. Most adults don’t play enough in their day-to-day lives. We lose opportunities to bond with others through laughter and exploration. And as we laugh and play, we’re prepared to learn new skills, and then apply those to some tough training sessions.
